Riddle me this: Le Frog Choke

Riddler? One-eyed All Black fan!Semi Finals in review…

Had the radar on this week when I tipped England to get up in a close affair and the Boks to breeze past Argentina with no problems. As sure as the sun comes up, the French choked after a huge game the prior week. After putting up with the taunts of the cocky French for a week, it was pleasing to see them exit the competition this week. Once again France has proven themselves to be just as big a choker as the All Blacks, if not bigger. After all, of the five consistent powers in rugby, they are the only one to have never held Bill aloft, despite disposing of the favourites at three of the tournaments and making the finals at two of them.

As predicted the France England game was an ugly spectacle, highlighted by forward play and the kicking game of the two fly-halves. After playing the game of their lives last week, the French were found short again, bring back haunting memories of 87 & 99 for them when disposing of the favourites only to flounder badly the next week. Once again England proved their nemesis making it 3 from 3 in knockout world cup games against the French.

Bryan Habana After the boring spectacle that was the England France game, it was refreshing to see the free flowing expansive game of the Boks as they piled on four tries against the stunned Argentineans. The Boks seem to have this sides number and they won with authority 37-13. Their backline looked very impressive and Habana took a huge step towards being named player of the tournament and IRB player of the year with another impressive performance, taking his tally to an amazing 8 tries for the tournament, making him level with Jonah Lomu in 1999 and a chance to extend it in the final.

Seeing England in the final is a shock but most pundits tipped South Africa to be in the final from their side of the draw. Well done to both sides for making it through to the final.
