NBA Blatherings With Malice

21 11 2007

Some movement in the NBA…

  • Lakers Trade! No, not that guy… Brian Cook & Maurice Evans were traded to the Orlando Magic for Trevor Ariza. I think this trade helps the Magic more on court than the Lakers… I would not be surprised if Cook actually goes on to be a serviceable player for the Magic.
Ariza will get minutes at LA, especially with Kwame Brown out at the moment. Brown’s been playing defensively pretty damn well, and Ariza’s quite the tough defender. Definitely lacking Kwame’s height, but at the end of the day, I think this trade is about cap space for the Lakers. Ariza’s contract is worth $3.1 million, and Brown’s is nearly $9.1 million. Both expire end of this season… make a tidy sum together.
  • Andrew BynumMore on the Lakers: absolutely DESTROYED Indiana tonight – LA 134 – Indiana 114. The last two games were against teams that we could possibly have committed trades with, and hell… am I glad the Lakers didn’t pull those triggers.
There’s no way on God’s green earth that Jermaine O’Neal is healthy. An anaemic statline of 14 points on 4-from-13 shooting, 3 rebounds, no blocks… when compared to Andrew Bynum’s (who the Lakers would’ve waved “bye-bye” to in a J O’N trade) 17 points on 6-from-6, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks all in only 28 minutes… well, colour me relieved that we didn’t trade for O’Neal. Kid Bynum had a monster game.
Kobe led all, with 32 points on .500 shooting – 5/9 on 3 pointers. The Lakers continued with the ‘depth’ thematic tho’ – with 8 scorers in double figures. 12 guys got minutes (even Karl/Crittendon). Did not see this form coming, but sure as hell glad it’s here.
  • The Knicks got absolutely destroyed by Golden State, 108-82. After a few nice games initially, suckage continues to be the theme in the Big Apple. Something needs to happen in MSG, and rumors around Blogfrica have that as Isiah getting fired. At training, Isiah lost it and booted out the entire team – NY Daily News article
  • At the time of writing, at the half the Bulls are down 53-72 against the Denver Nuggets. Down by 18, at the HALF! AI’s had 21, and ‘Melo 18. No Bull is in double figures as yet (Hinrich leads with 8 points).
Stuff has to change in Chicago. Pretty sure one thing’s probably changed: Kobe’s mind about going there. They are god-awful, and rightly so, Bulls fans are disappointed. End-note… Bulls lost 112-91…
