He’ll Be Watching…

One of the guys (Matt) who participated in the Are The Pats REALLY That Good? discussion wrote the following piece.

Superbowl XLIIOn Sunday 30th of December, the Washington Redskins defeated Dallas Cowboys to book a berth in the NFL Playoffs.
The Skins are the team that Sean Taylor played for.
Needing to win their last two games to have any semblance of hope, Washington smashed my boys – the New York Giants – and then demolished a strong Dallas (who ended with 13-3 for the season) to gain the 6th seed, with a 9-7 record.

So what will the playoffs hold?
The last 2 seasons have conjured up some absolute magic in the playoffs.
In 2005, Pittsburgh Steelers came from 6th seed in the AFC, to win it. No team has ever done that before, and this was on the back of Jerome “The Bus” Bettis. Bettis was a favourite son of the ‘Burgh, and had never won a Superbowl.
The emotion all through the playoffs was charged, and then when Bettis lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy, it was surreal.
What made it more special, was that the Superbowl was always scheduled to be in Pittsburgh, so they brought it home in front of the home fans.
The Bus had come home, and brought Vince along for the ride.

Last year was perhaps the most long overdue moment in NFL history. Peyton Manning, arguably the best Quarterback ever, FINALLY won the Superbowl with the Indiananapolis Colts. The accomplished quarterback, who had every record imaginable, numerous MVP’s, had never won a Superbowl.
In the AFC Conference game – the game before the Superbowl – they were down in the 4th against Tom Brady’s Patriots. Manning engineered a masterful comeback: they won by 4, then went on to win the Superbowl – recording a 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears.

Will the ‘Skins be able to win for Sean Taylor? So here’s hoping that the Washington Redskins can do it.
For themselves… to have been through such tragedy.
For their fans… to give them something to smile about in the wake of such devastation.
For Sean Taylor…
…because God knows he will be watching.

Wouldn’t that be something for the Skins to go and win it all? I would take it.
