NBA Lip Flappin’ With Malice…

16 04 2008

So, nothing much happened today, other than: the Hornets locked up the Southwest. An awesome achievement from a team that nobody had doing much of anything at the season’s beginning… and the #1 seed in the West will be the Los Angeles Lakers, after they posted a win over Sacramento, 124-101 – with their top 7 players closing the game out on the bench.

  • Interesting to head over to ESPN.com & look at how they see the season as it was. Most of it is pretty much as you’d expect… Rookie of the Year to Durant (I disagree)… Coach of the Year to Byron Scott (except Tim Legler gives it to Doc Rivers. Hell, I’ve seen 6 year olds who could coach that team)… MVP to Kobe (just)… Most Improved to Hedo Turkoglu (Hollinger gives it to Chris Paul… along with his MVP vote. Umm… really like Paul, huh John?)… And my personal bugbear at the moment: the 6th man award going to Manu Ginobli – GUY IS THEIR TOP SCORER AND PLAYS MORE THAN 30 MINUTES A NIGHT (only Tony Parker & Timmy Duncan play more minutes). Absolute joke.
  • The Lakers starters barely played a half, but by a little more than midway through the third quarter the game was all but dead ‘n’ buried. So, the biggest reason behind giving Paul the MVP over Bryant was that he lead the Hornets to the top of the Western Conference. That’s gone, so reasoning will change now to ‘he lead the Hornets to somewhere near the top’? Meh… Call me a cynic on that.
  • Still, the seedings in the West aren’t locked in.  Games tomorrow will decide that.  First time in my memory that the season has been so close, for so long.  At least in the West.
