NRL 2008 ~ Round 8 Preview (May 3 & 4)

2 05 2008

AAARRGGHH!!!!

Where does all my time go?

Alright, really quickly. We’ll start with last weeks results:

NRL Round 7

Titans 36 def Warriors 24

Sharks lost to Tigers 16 – 20 (YAY!)

Sea Eagles def Bulldogs 30 – 22

Cowboys lost to Storm 10 – 12

Dragons def Roosters 26 – 6

Broncos def Rabbitohs 32 – 18

So only 3/6 last week folks. Terribly sorry if any of you lost your house using my tips. I promise to try better this week though I am going for two upsets.

Knights vs Titans

I’ll take the Titans for their second away win of the season. Their defence, though not the points points wise in the comp, is the most structured and I think the Knights will have a real problem with that. A lot rests on how their City vs Country players back up: Laffranchi, Delaney and Minichiello for the Titans along with Buderus and Cross for the knights.

Panthers vs Eels

Money on the sports market is even for these two. I reckon the Eels will be able to shake off the dusty start to their season and put in some better performances. Young Keating has so far failed to live up to the expectation taking over from PJ Marsh and will need to lift his game when relieving Mark Riddell. Eels have four players backing up from City vs Country, Penrith just one.

Tigers vs Broncos

Broncos sit in equal, second with the Storm and have played well to deserve it. Their forwards have been off loading and passing before the line and causing chaos. The Tigers SHOULD play direct and wear these big ball players out and create room through the middle for Halatau to exploit. I think the Tigers, if they play to their strengths, have the game to beat the Broncos. Again, players backing up from Friday Knight could make it harder with two of them forwards, Heighington and Gibbs, and the other the mercurial Brett Hodgson.

Warriors vs Raiders

The best home side in the comp vs the worst away side. Should be a no brainer with the Warriors the logical choice. Might be difficult for them out wide though with Manu Vatevai out injured. Monoghan and Carney for the Raiders are the only representatives on Friday night.

Warriors by 14

Rabbitohs vs Cowboys

I seriously think the Bunnies can win this one. For no logical reason other than their recent form. Cowboys started the year badly but proved that time on the park is the best way to get into form. Jason Taylor has finally decided to play Isaac Luke at half back and Ndaira at hooker. Should be a good move. One player on each side will play on Friday night, both are forwards, Sutton (Rabbitohs) and Cashmere (Cowboys).

Rabbitohs by 8

Country Origin vs City Origin

Two fantastic squads. City I think have a better back line, Country a better pack. The key though is City’s halves combination of Anasta and Pearce who play together for the Roosters. The City pack is handy also and if they can get the better of the Country boys then they should get home. I’m tipping a tight one with City to win
