Let them balls fly

21 05 2008

Wow.
Chicago Bulls land the #1 pick in the lottery, this despite only having a 1.7 chance of doing so. Fortune favours, huh?
Pressure’s on them tho’ – in the last 10 years, the Chicago Bulls have had a pick in the top 10 every year except 2005.

TANGENT! Originally, many felt 2005 to be a fairly weak year talent-wise… but look who’s come out of that crop of players: two of the current best point guards are Chris Paul & Deron Williams – both 2005. Andrew Bynum’s considered to be one of the best young centers in the league – 2005. David Lee & Jason Maxiell – both rocks, and yes… you guessed it: 2005. Monta Ellis – 2nd rounder in 2005. And who can forget Cenk Akyol & Uros Slokar??? Oh… never mind…

But yes – pressure’s on the Bulls – who given what they’ve had for draft picks should be better than they are.
2007 – 9th pick
06 – 2nd and 13
05 – nothing…
04 – 3rd
03 – 7th
02 – 2nd
01 – 2nd and basically 4th
00 – 4th and 24th
99 – 1st and 16th…
Talk about underachieving…

Anyway – to the draft, what your team got (chance % of winning):
1st – Chicago (1.7)
2nd – Miami (25)
3rd – Minnesota (13.8 )
4th – Seattle (19.9)
5th – Memphis (13.7)
6th – New York (7.6)
7th – LA Clippers (7.5)
8th – Milwaukee (4.3)
9th – Charlotte (2.8 )
10th – New Jersey (1.1)
11th – Indiana (.8 )
12th – Sacramento (.7)
13th – Portland (.6)
14th – Golden State (.5)

From that, will 10th pick be enough to entice Denver to continue wheeling & dealing with New Jersey on Carmelo Anthony? What will D’Antoni be able to do with 6th? Who’ll go no.1? Be-easy, or Rose?
My money’s on Rose.
